Our Story
A Whirlwind Romance
Sonia came from Portland, Oregon to visit Puerto Morelos in February 2015 for some "me" time, and met Marco on her first day in town. She met his kids the next day. She moved to Mexico permanently in September 2015. A lot happened in between, and a lot has happened since, and a lot will surely happen in the future. She hasn't had much time to write their story, but that will be remedied soon.

Mapaches Roñosos American Football Team
Founded by Marco in 2016, the team provides activities for at risk youth at little to no cost to the kids.
Dog Rescue Work
When Sonia first moved to Mexico in 2015, we adopted a stray kitten. Then another. In January 2017, we adopted our first rescue dog, then another. Then another! It was in the fall of 2018 that we started sterilizing and rescuing street animals and fostering them until we could find them new homes. Well, a lot of them we found new homes, and not a few became "Foster Fails", aka, they became Permanent instead of Temporary residents! Dogs that are not good candidates for adoption, usually due to age and health problems, end up becoming part of our family. We currently have 9 rescue dogs, mostly seniors, and 5 cats. However, to date we have sent close to 20 animals to their forever homes in Canada and the U.S. with the help of PM Cause4Paws, Taco Dog Rescue Society, and Street Dog Hero from my native state of Oregon.
Fundraisers for Local Animal Rescues
Since 2015, we have participated in fundraisers for local animal rescues such as PM Cause4Paws, Riviera Rescue, AC, and Fresh Start Kitten Fostering and Adoptions. We also hosted 3 community potluck fundraisers for (U.S.) Thanksgiving in 2018, 2019, and 2021, and are looking for a space to host again in 2025
Community Kitchen Project
From May to September of 2020, we cooked for and delivered food to around 50 people twice a week, ultimately serving over 1800 meals.
